Slugabed - Wake Up feat. Szjerdene

"Slugabed's new single Wake Up is out today.
This limited and beautifully idiosyncratic 7" is the result of a fruitful collaboration between Slugabed and talented singer Szjerdene (pronounced JhurDEEN).
Greg Feldwick aka Slugabed combines Szjerdene's R+B inspired vocal with his notoriously layered melodies creating a killer track. The pair have previously collaborated on Szjerdene's EP Patchwork through a mutual respect for each other's work. This track follows Slugabed's critically acclaimed debut album Time Team." via Ninja Tune

Dntel, Herbert – My Orphaned Son / It’s Only

"Pampa’s output has always been practically impossible to predict, regardless of the protagonist involved. This time, the responsibility lays in the hands of label boss DJ Koze and goofball-techno loving duo Die Vogel, who are trusted with remixing two particularly poignant, emotive and melancholy works of electronica.

Die Vogel do an adept job at tackling Dntel’s “My Orphaned Son”, as they replace the original’s saddening tones with something far more upbeat. A series of intricate melodies (spurred by a host of chimes and bells) do the trick, while the titillating piano line practically laughs in the face of the record’s somewhat callous title. In fact, it’s not until the second half of this interpretation that any of the original’s prime characteristics come into play, by which stage the record has already firmly nailed its colours to the mast.

The flip side though, is more concerned with leaving an impression; a feat achieved (again) with sumptuous ease by DJ Koze. Indeed, a quick listen to Herbert’s “It’s Only” marks it out as precisely the sort of tune that’d prickle his very ears, with its sultry female lyrics, irregular guitar chords and piano keys ensuring it leans towards unconventional territory. So what of the remix? Well, Koze – and this is expected – frogmarches it toward atmospheric planes, with a barrage of ghoulish flutes ensuring it’s one that’s particularly suited to this time of year. He shrewdly grants the vocal an added dimension too, chopping and skewing it so that it neatly fits in with the rest of the record’s warped and freaky vibes. Should you appreciate Koze’s many oddball charms, chances are you’ll appreciate this remix, as it emphasises his propensity for the dynamic, the unique and – let’s be frank – the downright weird. Pampa’s latest double A-sided joint is all killer…and no filler." via I Voice

Pachanga Boys - We Are Really Sorry Debut LP

"Rebolledo and Aksel Schaufler will follow some highly prized twelve inches as Pachanga Boys with a debut album, entitled We Are Really Sorry and set for release via their own Hippie Dance imprint in November.
The Mexican Cómeme artist and the Kompakt stalwart more commonly known as Superpitcher began working together under the Pachanga Boys alias some three years ago, contributing to severalKompakt Total compilations before launching the Hippie Dance label upon which they sought to spread the word of the “New Church Of Hippie”. Musically this has manifested itself as a slightly bizarre take on the melodic techno sound associated with Kompakt across a series of well received and highly sought after limited 12″s – copies of last year’s Girl Catcher are  currently listed between £160 and £220 on Discogs for instance.
Recently announced as one of the first artists to feature on Permanent Vacation’s projected John Talabot fIN remix series – for which they’ve actually submitted three versions of “When The Past Was Present” – Rebolledo and Schaufler will look to present a full length vision of the Pachanga Boys world on the amusingly titled We Are Really Sorry, described in the imaginatively penned press release as “an exhaustive recollection of their adventures on and off the road while finding their way to Pachangafarian enlightenment”.
Intriguingly, the 15 track set eschews the chance to include any of the previously released Pachanga Boys tracks in favour of all new productions, narrated by “the truly fantastic Dessagne twins from Saint-Etienne” and even comes accompanied by a DVD featuring a movie of the album which presumably documents the “roadtrip from Cologne to Cheesetown, Coffeetown, Boottown and back again” referenced in the bizarre press release." - via Junodownload

New Remixes of Kolombo

"Olivier Grégoire is one of the most prolific and reknowned producer/dj from Belgium. He truly masters the art of modern production like not many of his peers and has experimented many dance music genres trough various pseudonyms, leading to a huge discography, that includes releases on some of the world's finest electronic imprints.
Under his massive KOLOMBO moniker he's recently had loads of solid releases and remixes on labels such as Kompakt, Noir Music, Turbo, Eskimo, Future Classic, Systematic, Boxer... He consequently tours massively worldwide all year-round, djing his mixture of electronic house and disco and enjoying loyal followings in Brazil, Mexico and Russia. He's also running his own house Loulou Records imprint, together with his partner Jerome, with who he produces and djs worldwide too as LOULOU PLAYERS. The label has a firm house music policy with a knack at scouting future talents and gets strong support from the likes of MANDY, Richy Ahmed, Solomun, Ivan Smagghe, H.O.S.H, Wally Lopez, Chlöé...

And last but not least, he's also been creating more leftfield electronic music since 2008 with Brussels dance-music pioneer Geoffroy Mugwump, causing a stir with their killer MUGWUMP 12's and remixes for Kompakt (mainly) and on Gigolo, R&S, Cocoon, Throne Of Blood, Misericord, International Feel, Permanent Vacation or Endless Flight.
After months of hard work, the forthcoming Mugwump debut album that includes great guests/vocal featurings is now ready to be unleashed. Hard work, constancy, open-mindness and huge technical skills are the key ingredients that define Kolombo's path to success within dance music today." via Resident Advisor

Walls - Gaberdine (Gerd Janson & Prins Thomas Remix)

"Walls' timeless "Gaberdine" from their first album gets the full disco treatment by floor maestros Gerd Janson and Prins Thomas." via Kompakt

NU - Blackbird

Why you wanna fly Blackbird you ain't ever gonna fly

Daniel Avery - Need Electric EP

'What’s most immediately apparent about the Need Electric EP is just how strange the four tracks are. The title track seemingly references both Avery’s misty eyed electro clash memories and Paul Woolford in his mid noughties era, as an “Erotic Discourse” flavoured stripped down groove twists itself ever tighter around the detuned analogue core, while icily framed female tones filter out. The whispers of Woolford on board to remix Avery under his Special Request name for a subsequent Phantasy release make this connection all the more intriguing. Alongside this, “Taste” makes for an even weirder bedfellow, its seven plus minutes of sparse rhythms, percolating bass lines and unsettling vocal embellishments quite aptly described by Alkan himself as the “feeling of nature gone wrong”. Thus far this year it remains one of the strangest tracks conceived with the dance floor in mind, but perhaps that’s its inherent beauty. Avery’s willingness to mess with people’s expectations continues apace on the flip with “One In The Wave” – the first of two Timothy J Fairplay assisted tracks – a short piece that experiments with droning textures and brittle almost there bass tones. The spectre of Lord Sabre hangs over “The Eagle”, an equally unnerving track driven by a gritty, low slung punk funk riff which hints Avery has been taking plenty of notes while working in Weatherall’s Basement Bunker.' - via junodownload.com

2562 / A Made Up Sound - Malfunctions (Single)

"Dutch nonconformist Dave Huismans may be best known for his heartfelt and genre-defying bass music experiments as 2562, but his longest-going project A Made Up Sound has been gaining just as much momentum lately.
''You might as well try and stop a train with wire coathangers''is how one of techno's most widely recognized journalists quite aptly described the sheer force of A Made Up Sound's oddball yet funk-fueled take on house/techno.
Malfunctions is yet another example for an incredible unique and equally functional demonstration of how developed techno should sound in 2012!" via 50 Weapons

Justin Martin - Don't Go

San Francisco’s ambassador of bass Justin Martin has just uploaded another stunning track from his debut album Ghettos & Gardens. Justin never fails to impress with his imaginative use of samples and Don’t Go is no exception. A sense of regret is beautifully conveyed by the use of oriental chimes and a massive sub-bass which wouldn’t sound amiss in something by Jamie Jones or the Hot Natured Crew. I for one can say that I’m massively looking forward to the new record as everything I’ve heard so far has been top-notch. - via stoneyroads.com

The Hundred In The Hands - Keep It Low (Andy Stott Remix)

"The new single from Warp pop outfit Hundred In The Hands exceeds our expectations, thanks largely to what is honestly some of the heaviest sub-bass we've heard all year; wistful vocals, airy synth lines and ringing guitar complete the picture. The real draw is the remixes: Andy Stott breaks down and reconstructs the track according to the precise, airtight aesthetic of his landmark Passed Me By and We Stay Together LPs, using the original's vocal judiciously for a surprisingly anthemic climax..." via Boomkat

Uffe - I'll Leave Soon (Catz 'n Dogz Talking Remix)

'You can see why Uffe Christensen has caught the ears of Catz 'N Dogz. The Polish duo are currently making some of the most forward-thinking, intriguing dance music around, with off-kilter rhythms and complex basslines their specialty. Uffe's debut release for Catz 'n Dogz's Pets Recordings sees the Amsterdam-based Dane deliver some pitched down, richly-textured and deep, techy house that etches out a mood without being moody. "I'll Leave Soon" is built around an almost imperceptible digital click tapping out the rhythm, accompanied by wind chimes, a skeletal, bassy, analogue synth and a disaffected vocal, before finally bursting into a colourful bloom of bubbling pads and rattling acidic touches. In the hands of the label heads, the track is twisted into a rumbling, atmospheric monster full of quirky guttural sounds, laser beeps and booming bass drops.' - via ResidentAdvisor

Glimpse & Martin Dawson - Our Friends (Official Video)

Glimpse explains, "This track, 'Our Friends' was one of those tracks that happened very naturally at the end of a long two day recording session. It was cobbled together, pretty much, in just a few hours and then left on a hard drive to fester.

A month later I re-opened the project in a rather intoxicated state and recorded the vocal. It's about our friends and colleague's in the industry flying around the world, playing gigs, downloading things in hotel rooms and power napping in airports. Basically life on the road." - via

Herr Vogel - Marquises

"Herr Vogel lädt zum Tanz, wie die Kuckucksuhren zur Stunde."

Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know (ItaloBros remix)

"Italo Bros respectively born in 1989 in Calabria (italy), deejays "eclectic" music evolving. The duo does not like to categorize music in Calabria, house music offering, techouse, deep, in various shades in every "set", are also distinguished by their charisma, their inventiveness and their engaging way to stand behind the console . Their strength, their charge, their determination is the result of their passion, giving the right and courage to dare to be experimental, but above all to be different." via ItaloBros's SoundCloud

Ty - Emotions

As a make-up artist, a couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with this absolutely cool and funny guy called 'Ty' when shooting his next video 'Let's Start' presumably released mid-summer. Gonna post the video on the blog as soon as it's out but in the meantime check out some of his tunes and his official website tymusic.co.uk for more

Nicolas Jaar ft. Sasha Spielberg – Avalanche (Leonard Cohen cover) / Nicolas Jaar Essential Mix

'What is it with Nicolas Jaar and famous people’s kids? First he teamed up with Scout LaRue, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, and now he’s revealed this track with one Sasha Spielberg. Yes, you guessed it. She just so happens to have a father called Steven who directed some film called ‘Jurassic Park’. If you thought that was intriguing enough, then just wait for this. The track in question is a Leonard Cohen cover, as Jaar takes apart his track ‘Avalanche’ and pieces it back together as a masterpiece of ambient minimalism.' - via thelineofbestfit.com

Yppah - Film Burn feat. Anomie Belle

"A beautiful, warm and almost nostalgic piece of music-making, "Film Burn” revolves around heartbeat kick, a music box chord sequence, bubbles of electric bass and the voice of Anomie Belle, a singer, producer and classically trained violinist based in Seattle. The pair met when Yppah was touring with Bonobo in 2010, hit it off and, when Belle heard the demos which would make up Eighty One, in the words of Yppah, “it was such a natural fit she ended up doing four tracks!”" via Ninja Tune

Matthew Dekay & Lee Burridge - Lost In A Moment (Original & Dixon Rework)

'For the past two years, we have been playing almost every production by Matthew Dekay & Lee Burridge. Now we're very happy to welcome both of them on Innervisions IV38. "Lost In A Moment" is a track that has given us goosebumps when playing it out in the clubs. A Dixon Mix on the flipside takes a different approach and shows that the summer season is just around the corner.' - via Innervisions

FINALLY! This beauty getting its release in a few days!! Been waiting for that day since Dixon dropped the original in his Boiler Room set in January. Waking up to such news = priceless.

Shaun J. Wright - Forever more ('Empheral Nature' directed by Gsus Lopez)

'Ephemeral Nature' is a film written and directed by Gsus Lopez. Winner of the Grand Prix at ASVOFF Barcelona 2012 for Best Film (Official Selection)

A classy and stylish couple living in a London maisonette hide a secret behind closed doors. They hold a relationship with several plastic objects including hand-made acrylic playful jewellery from a brand called DISPLÈXIA which you repeatedly see throughout the film. The characters’ life moto is pleasure and therefore they are driven by desire. It is their nature. Since all pleasures are ephemeral I decided to give it the title of ‘Ephemeral Nature’. - Gsus Lopez

The soundtrack is a song called ‘Forever More’ by Shaun J. Wright (more known for being the vocalist of the band ‘Hercules & Love Affair’).

Inspired by directors such as Pedro Almodóvar, Xavier Dolan, Wong Kar Wai, Giorgios Lanthimos, and Sang-soo Im among others, ‘Ephemeral Nature’ is a short film with the big influence of Fashion, the speed of a music video and the narrative of an experimental film.' -

XXYYXX - About you

jaw dropped. mind blown.

Amon Tobin - Carry On Marmaduke

"Feted by a list of industry names that range from Trent Reznor to Brian Eno, as expected there’s a richness, intensity and wild contrast to the contents even in this highly distilled environment, the break dominated opener ‘Carry On Marmaduke‘ blending industrial white noise with flute and keyboard motifs, an intriguing combination all leaving the impression of a folk barbershop quartet jamming off their tits somewhere in the orbit of Mars..." via live4ever

Oxia - Tides Of Mind (Album)

"OXIA is releasing this week a flamboyant second album on InFiné. The fans of the first album “24 Heures” released in 2004 will be surprised. The groove remains nonetheless the common denominator of all tracks produced by Oxia. But between this two album, Olivier Raymond has travelled, remixed and produced a lot of music for very respected labels of the likes of Kompakt, 8bits, Tsuba to name just a few. Only was missing a Long Player, this particular exercise, which forces the artists to assess their influences and aspirations and to crystallise them in a record of one hour. “I’ve had a wider range of influences on this album. Not only jazz, but also folk, classical music, as well as bands such as Radiohead, Lonely Dear and Apparat” Oliver confessed in an interview for Data Transmission. “
“The album reflects me as a person and what I have been through in the last years. It reflects my different state of minds.” But it will also influence the listener’s mood and behaviour. Tides of Mind is conducive to daydreaming, smiling, feet-tapping and escapism... It unfolds seamlessly, much to our serenity and delight. The album also features vocal collaborations of Miss Kittin, Mesparrow and Scalde." via Infiné
